Donate to my next book-Tight: What America Wears

I am looking for donations to help finance my next book Tight: What America Wears.

Tight will be a 200 page B/W photo essay on the four types of "tight clothing"; business, club, exercise, and casual wear.
The key difference for this book than other photobooks of this type, is that you will not see any of the models faces until the end.

I have many goals for my next book: a snapshot of current fashion, challenge perceptions of what people consider attractive, and as always, showcase the work of talented men and women. If I can use this book to get on The Daily Show to talk about body image, that would be pretty good too.

My goal is $200 for 8 hours of studio time. Anything over that will be used to cover any additional expenses, or fund other projects I have in development.

After the book is done, I will be looking for additional money to cover promotion of Tight: What America Wears.

So, if you feel that my vision is worth supporting, please click the paypal link above or below.

Thank you so much!

This weekend, I worked with a wonderful new model from Pennsylvania, Amber Amore (Model Mayhem #2950732).
On occasion, I take trips up to the southern part of PA to visit family, go antiquing, and take pictures of retro gas pumps (more fun than it sounds). I reached out to a few models in the area, just in case I had some free time to set up a photo shoot. Amber was one of the models.
She sent me a brief email asking to work with me. I was all set to go in March, but my travel plans changed. While I was disappointed, we continued to talk, and I watched her build an interesting and diverse portfolio.
A couple of weeks later, she let me know that she had set up another shoot, and she was going to be in the DC area. Happy that I was going to work with her, we talked about ideas, came up with a list of outfits, and counted down the days until our shoot.
After going to the wrong hotel, I met Amber and her boyfriend/chaperon Josh. The two of them instantly made me felt at ease. It wasn't long before we were outside, shooting the "country girl" set.
After the light, and the weather, drove us inside, we set up for a "True Lies" inspired shoot. Josh was a big help, and got to be part of the shoot (or at least his arm was a part).
Once I got the shots I wanted, we did a lingerie/boudoir shoot, which Amber wanted to add to her port. Having learned some lessons from a similar shoot, we got some great photos, one of which she posted on her fan page.
While she is new to modeling, she is a true professional. She is prompt, willing to push herself, and has a strong sense of what she wants. She works hard, takes direction well, and bring positive energy with her.
If you ever have any questions about working with her, message me.
I can't wait to work with her again.

This last weekend, I worked with a new model (new to me, and fairly new to modeling) Alyssa CB (MM #2949447).
Right of the bat, I knew I had to work with her. The fact she took the time to tag me on Model Mayhem was a huge plus. Her message was simple, yet effective; "Lovely port! I would love to work with you sometime!" So some simple flattery, her initiative, and that she is super beautiful, I emailed her right away.
The original job was some work on my "No Future" photographic novel (more on that in another post) and some portfolio building, not that she really needed it.
Things changed when I requested a pin up style costume from http://www.costumereviewers.com/ . We added it in, pushing a couple other ideas for another time.
The shoot was nothing but fun, and what was supposed take 4 hours turned into a 7 hour marathon. Props to Alyssa, she was a trooper.
Along with Alyssa was her best friend Allie. She got the "wonderful" job of chaperon, production assistant, and even a bit player in "No Future". Like Alyssa, Allie stuck with it all day long, and was a huge help.
We did three sets; pin up, "No Future" and an amazing red dress she brought along (which we didn't get enough pictures of).
We took so many photos, it will take months to pick go through them all.
Already we are trying to get together to set up a new shoot.

Major Trouble Costume Review

Back in January, I volunteered to write reviews for Costume Reviews.com (http://www.costumereviewers.com/). The arrangement is simple: once every three months I can request a costume or lingerie (up to $35 value) to review.

The first costume I requested was the “Adult Sexy Major Trouble Army Costume” from Wholesale Halloween Costumes (See Military Uniforms). I asked Alyssa CB (http://www.modelmayhem.com/alyssacb), who’s measurements best matched the only size they had, to model and help me review.

I requested the costume on the 12th of March, and it arrived within a week (they were projecting 10 days). It came in a clear package with the costume, a hat, and a Velcro dickey. There were no instructions on how to put it on, but it isn't exactly a complex outfit.

After hair and makeup were complete, Alyssa tried it on. We discovered that the hat doesn't stay on unless you pin it. Fortunately, it only took two pins for it to remain in place.

The once piece costume was a little too big. Alyssa said she would have ordered a size smaller, even though the size chart said she would be a good fit. The material was soft, and she would not mind wearing it for a long period. She also thought that the “Major Trouble” name tape was a cute extra. The only negative was that it stuck to her butt when she sat down.

The “skirt” part of the outfit hung low enough that she didn't flash anyone. The skirt did get a little lift thanks to the wind, or when she twirled, but not too high. Still, we could not resist doing a couple of “peek-abo” flashes, which was really cute.

All in all, Alyssa felt it was a decent costume, one she would wear at a party, or for a pin up shoot. It just needed to be a little smaller.

I'm back, with a little help from my friends.

Well, it's been slow going trying to re-establish this blog. After being sick with a nasty flu prep work on my next book, a cool new deal, and a bunch of photo shoots, I'm back.
No, this is not an April Fool's joke. I really am back!
This time, I'm going to do it smarter, and on schedule. As of April 2013, every Monday and Wednesday, I will do a new post. It may be about the shoot I just had on the weekend, my views on photography, a review or interview, or just some random crap. No matter what, I hope you will enjoy it.

Where have you been?

Okay, I know my track record with this blog has been spotty at times, but over the last couple of weeks, I have had a good reason.
I have become a zombie!
No, that's not true, but I do feel like one.
Truth be told, I have the flu. This is one of the meanest flu's I have ever encountered. It sneaks up on you, and then smashes a brick over your head. The sinus pressure, deep body chills, high fever, aches, the crap in your lungs keeps you from getting any kind of rest. I was lucky, I was over most of it by Monday. My wife was fighting for almost a week.
But, once the main symptoms go, you still feel lethargic, simple things like walking the dog is a marathon, and your appetite takes days to recover. Only two time can I think of a worse flu than this.
So, I promise my friends, the year in review will return. You can at least see some of the interesting things that have been going on while I've been sidelined on my Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/dvjphoto
I hope to get back to work this weekend.
